How HITL compares
Last verified: 1 October 2026
HITL is the first agentic phone app: a team of AI agents that live in an app on your phone. Here's how it compares with phone assistants and always-on agents, including where they lead.

| Every product shows approvals for its own agent. "Remote agents" here means agents from other vendors. No product in this table documents that, so these dashes mean "not found", not "no". | ||||||||
| 8. Price and availability | ||||||||
Price to start | Free plan; Pro and Max priced in the app for your country; your own key on every plan[H12] | Included with supported Apple devices, with daily limits; Apple says expanded access will cost extra[A6] | Free; AI Pro $19.99/mo; Ultra from $99.99/mo[G9] | Free weekly allowance; Power $20/mo; Maximum $100/mo[M6]
Phones | iPhone (iOS 17+, by TestFlight invitation during the beta) and Android 10+ (Google Play)[H13] | iPhone 15 Pro and later[A2] | Android and iPhone[G4] | Gemini app on Android and iPhone; also Mac and web[G7] | ChatGPT app (a dot must be created on a computer)[O2] | iPhone, Android, WhatsApp; also web and Mac[M1]
Status | Public beta[H13] | Widely available; some agent features US-only[G8] | Not in the EEA, UK, Switzerland or Nigeria[G7] | Pro: not in the EEA, UK or Switzerland; texting is a limited US-only beta[O2] | Early beta[X1] | Open source[N1]
Instinct (Spear Street Technology) is an invite-only beta assistant that you text or call. It works on its own devices rather than your phone, and has no published price [I1][I4]. OpenClaw (OpenClaw Foundation) is an open-source agent that you host on your own computer or server and chat with through messaging apps [C1]. You can also connect OpenClaw to HITL, so its questions and approvals reach your phone [H11].
This comparison is based on each company's publicly available documentation, help pages and announcements, as checked on the "Last verified" date. Features, prices, regions and availability change often and may differ by device, country, plan or account. "Not found" (—) means we could not find the feature in public documentation, not that it does not exist. Product names and trademarks belong to their owners; their use here is for identification only and does not imply endorsement or affiliation. HITL is in public beta. If you spot something out of date, tell us and we'll correct it.
Notes
- 1.HITL agents, their memory and your chats stay on your phone. When an agent thinks, the request goes to the AI provider you choose. An experimental on-device model is available on some Android phones [H10].
- 2.The Gemini app is on your phone and uses Google's cloud models.
- 3.Hermes Agent runs on a computer or server you host, or on Nous's Hermes Cloud. Android support is a prerelease command-line install via Termux [N2].
- 4.HITL runs on your phone, so the phone needs to be on. Schedules run in the background, the operating system may delay them, and if you're offline they wait for a connection [H7].
- 5.Hermes keeps running while its host computer or server is on.
- 6.Spark works with your Google account apps (for example Gmail, Calendar and Photos) from Google's cloud, not with the phone itself [G8].
- 7.OpenAI documents device access only for a connected desktop computer [O3].
- 8.Muse offers Android SMS and Apple Health connectors, and location-based reminders [M3].
- 9.HITL agents can open apps that support deep links and prepare things there; for example, a WhatsApp reply to a specific contact, which you then send. On iPhone they can also build and run Apple Shortcuts, and on Android they can read your notifications and analyse your screen when you tap. They don't control other apps or tap through their screens for you [H8].
- 10.Siri AI works in apps that support Apple's App Intents. Siri AI itself is in beta [A1].
- 11.Gemini's device assistance handles alarms, settings, messages and notifications. Screen automation is a beta in select apps, on recent Pixel and Galaxy phones, in the US and Korea [G2].
- 12.
- 13.HITL is an app, not the system assistant. You can wake it with "Hey HITL" or Siri's "Ask HITL", and on Android there's a Quick Settings tile [H8].
- 14.Gemini lets you save custom instructions as skills for its one assistant. Skills are replacing Gems and are rolling out gradually, starting with personal accounts (18+) [G4].
- 15.Spark is a single agent with skills. Google has announced custom sub-agents [G8].
- 16.One dot per person today. OpenAI says more dots will come "in the future" [O1].
- 17.
- 18.HITL Squads group agents for coordinated runs [H3].
- 19.Grok Bot lets people share Bot templates [X10].
- 20.HITL's scheduled runs happen on your phone: a background service on Android, and a Live Activity on iPhone. iOS may limit background time [H7].
- 21.Siri AI has Shortcuts automations, not a scheduled agent [A3].
- 22.Gemini supports up to 10 scheduled actions [G3].
- 23.Siri AI always asks before sending your request to ChatGPT. For in-app actions, Apple says whether it confirms depends on the action [A4].
- 24.
- 25.Hermes asks by default in its "smart" mode, which lets low-risk commands through automatically. You can switch it to always ask [N4].
- 26.dots' Custom Rules set "act, act if pre-approved, ask, or hand off" for each kind of action [O3].
- 27.Muse lets you allow an action once, for a task, for a site, or always [M8].
- 28.In Grok Bot, "Always allow" can be set for each action, and approval of local commands is configurable [X2].
- 29.Hermes' approval modes (smart, manual or off) apply across the whole agent [N4].
- 30.Siri AI uses Apple's models, with an optional ChatGPT extension [A4].
- 31.Grok Bot: "Cursor manages model selection. There is no customer-facing model picker" [X2].
- 32.HITL's on-device model is experimental and Android-only [H10].
- 33.Hermes can run local models on your own computer [N5].
- 34.HITL chats are kept on your device and sent to your chosen AI provider to generate replies [H10].
- 35.
- 36.Hermes keeps everything on the host you run [N5].
- 37.Apple documents MCP for Xcode only [A5].
- 38.Gemini's custom MCP apps are US-only and 18+ [G5].
- 39.dots connect through OpenAI's plugins and Muse through Meta's reviewed connectors. Neither documents adding your own MCP server.
- 40.Grok Bot has MCP connector policies on its Teams and Enterprise plans [X6].
